학교 과제로 Ode (영시의 한 종류)를 지어가야 했던적이 있었습니다. Ode는 기본적으로 어떤 대상을 찬양하는 종류의 시인데, 운좋게도 주제는 본인이 선택하는 것이었기 때문에 전 "Functional Languages", 즉 함수형 프로그래밍 언어에 대한 것이었지요. 다음은 제가 영어로 제출한 시의 한국어 번역입니다.
함수형 언어들을 위한 시
최고 사령관들인 복잡난해한 알고리즘들의 명령을 받지만, 그래도 넌 수수하면서 개방적이구나. 그래서 리차드(Richard)와 그의 영양(gnu)도 기쁜거겠지. 너는 그 게으른면마저도 쓸모가 있단다. 낭비되는게 하나도 없으니까. 비록 OOP가 현재의 동향이긴 하지만, 실망하지 말으렴 내 친구야. 람다(Lambda)가 우리의 구세주가 될 것이야. 우리 혁명의 계획(scheme)을 따르렴.
하지만 조심하렴, 태양(sun)에서 오는 그 사악한 커피(coffee)를. 자꾸만 확장되는 그의 라이브러리와 클래스들은 너를 무효화(nullify)시킬수도 있어. 비록 그가 굉장히 강건해(robust) 보이긴 하지만, 절대로 낙담하지 말으렴, 너의 O는 그의 것보다 작으니까. 기억해! 그 괴물(monster)과 불같은 여우(fiery fox)가 파랑새(blue birds)를 무찌를테니까.
불쌍한 인간(pitiful men)들의 많고 많은 언어들중에, 그 누구도 너의 순수함(purity)를 의심하지 않을거야. 진짜 기계(Real Machine)은 가상의 기계(Virtual Machine)을 없애기 위해 망설이지 않을거고. 솔라리스(Solaris)의 위조된 아름다움을 서서히 사라져가고 있어, 녹주석(beryl)과 그의 동료들에게 둘러쌓여서. 맞아, 그들은 전부 연마(forge)되었어. 빨간 모자(red hat)과 중절모(fedora)를 반겨주렴. 이 세상은 바뀌고 있어. 웹 2.0이 그러하듯.
그리고 너의 그 순수한 함수적인 표기법은 보이는 것보다 더 많은 의미를 가지고 있단다.
